Access Control

Card or facial recognition readers that replace keys, with time profiles, archived event logs and automatic lock and unlock.

Keys walk out the door with the people who carried them

A metal key does not know who is holding it. It opens the door for the owner, for the cousin who borrowed it, and for the employee who left in the spring and never turned it in. Copies get cut at the hardware store with no record, and the only way to be sure who still has access is to change every lock and hand out a new set. Most buildings never do, so the list of people who can walk in quietly grows longer than anyone remembers.

A lost key is the same problem on a smaller scale. Somebody has to decide whether it will turn up in a coat pocket or whether the cylinder needs rekeying today. Access control replaces that guesswork with a list. Each person has a card or a face on file, each credential opens only the doors it should, and taking someone off the list is a matter of minutes rather than a locksmith visit.

Certified Alarm has worked in Sheffield and across the Shoals since 1960, and access control sits beside our fire, intrusion and camera work in the same family-owned shop. One company designs it, installs it and answers the phone when you call (256) 406-2039.

Consultation, design and installation, door by door

Every job starts with a conversation. For larger buildings it is a free in-person consultation, and if a video call suits you better we can do it by Zoom, FaceTime or Google Meet. We walk the doors that matter: the front entrance, the supply room, the server closet, the back dock. For each one the question is the same. Who needs to get through, and when?

The readers themselves are either card access or facial recognition. A card reader is simple and familiar. Facial recognition removes the card altogether, so there is nothing to lend, lose or leave on a desk. We design the system around your doors and your people, then our crew installs it with UL-listed equipment. We hold Alabama licence ABES-066 and Tennessee licence C0556, and we are certified installation experts for Bosch.

Then come the rules. You decide which areas to deny or allow for each person, set time profiles so the day shift's credentials stop working at night, and use automatic lock and unlock so the front door releases in the morning and secures itself after closing.

After install: who came through, and keeping it current

Every use of a credential is written to an event log, and the logs are archived. When something goes missing from a storeroom, you can look at who opened that door and when instead of guessing, and instead of questioning the whole staff.

Staff come and go. Adding a new employee profile or deleting one who has left is quick work, and a deleted profile means that person no longer opens your doors. There are no keys to chase down and no cylinders to change.

Monitoring and maintenance are part of the service, handled by the same team that put the system in. Our central station alarm monitoring is UL-listed, runs over NetCom with cellular backup, and emergency service is available 24 hours a day. For a question about a reader or a schedule, call (256) 406-2039 or our alternate line at (256) 383-1225.
