What a camera system is up against when no one is looking
Most of what a camera protects against happens in a few seconds and out of sight. A shopper slips an item into a bag at the end of an aisle. An employee quietly takes from the till or the stockroom. A customer says they fell on your floor, and without footage it becomes one story against another. Cameras turn those moments from a dispute into a record.
The failures that hurt are the quiet ones. A camera aimed at the wrong spot, a lens gone dirty, a recorder that stopped saving days ago: each looks fine until the day you need the video and find there is none. A system has to be designed and checked with that day in mind.
How Certified designs, installs and inspects it
We start with a consultation, free and in person for larger jobs or by Zoom, FaceTime or Google Meet. We look at entrances, registers, stockrooms, lots and the places where cash or inventory moves, then decide where each camera should sit so faces, hands and doorways are in frame instead of ceilings and glare.
Video is recorded on-site on digital video recorders, so the footage lives in your building. Cameras and recorders come from brands including Pelco, Honeywell and Bosch, installed on UL-listed systems and equipment by a crew licensed in Alabama (ABES-066) and Tennessee (C0556). Remote viewing is set up so you can check live and recorded video from a phone, tablet or computer.
Inspections keep it honest. We confirm each camera is still pointed where it should be, the picture is clear, and the recorder is actually saving what you think it is saving.
After install: monitoring, service and the signs of trouble
Where a system is tied to alarm monitoring, Certified provides UL-listed monitoring through NetCom with a cellular backup, so the connection does not rest on a single line. Emergency service runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and our team in Sheffield has been doing this work since 1960.
Watch for the signs that a system needs a visit: a camera that shows a black or frozen picture, gaps in the recorded footage, a time stamp that is wrong, a lens that has fogged or gone out of focus, or a phone app that will not connect the way it used to. Any one of them can leave you without the video you counted on.
